Five innovations and solutions from the Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group at a glance
The Q-tainer is a mobile data and analytics platform for construction sites. It combines sensor technology, drones, AI and project monitoring to provide real-time transparency on construction progress, environmental conditions and project risks.
What makes it innovative?
- AI-supported automated progress monitoring:
Drone and camera footage is analysed automatically and actual construction progress is compared directly with the project schedule. This eliminates time-consuming manual data collection. - Real-time data platform for better decision-making:
Environmental, weather, machine and construction site data is brought together on a central platform, providing a transparent and objective basis for project management, risk management and scheduling at any time. - A learning system for future projects:
The insights gathered over time help improve forecasting, resource planning and risk assessment for future projects.
RAILium is a modular software suite for intelligent deployment and resource planning in railway construction. It helps railway construction companies efficiently schedule track construction machinery, maintenance activities, personnel and projects, optimise utilisation and identify potential bottlenecks at an early stage.
What makes it innovative?
- Integrated resource planning:
Machinery, skilled personnel and projects are planned within a single platform, making conflicts, idle time and overbooking visible at an early stage. - Designed specifically for the railway construction industry:
Unlike generic ERP or planning systems, RAILium takes into account the specific requirements of railway construction machinery, safety-related regulations, employee qualifications and the complex deployment logic of railway construction operations.
Vibratory foundation technology is an innovative foundation method for railway infrastructure in which foundation elements – some of them telescopic – are installed into the ground using vibration rather than conventional concrete foundations or pile-driving methods. The system enables faster, quieter and more resource-efficient foundations while providing high stability and immediate load-bearing capacity.
What makes it innovative?
- Significantly lower resource consumption:
Less excavation, less concrete and reduced construction logistics help lower costs, CO₂ emissions and organisational effort. - Faster project delivery:
The foundation elements can be loaded immediately after installation, shortening construction times and allowing railway possessions to be used more efficiently. - Sustainable and removable:
The foundation elements are fully recyclable and can be removed without leaving residues, offering particular advantages for temporary installations and construction works. - Less disruption to railway operations:
The method generates significantly less noise than conventional pile-driving techniques and does not adversely affect the ballast bed.
The logistics management solution is a digital Lean Construction and logistics platform for tunnel and infrastructure projects. It connects scheduling, resource management, logistics and real-time location tracking within a single environment, creating transparency across all ongoing activities on the construction site.
What makes it innovative?
- One-platform concept:
Scheduling, Lean Management, logistics control, material requests and the location tracking of vehicles, personnel and equipment are all integrated into a single solution. - Digital Lean Construction methodology:
Collaborative weekly planning, early identification of conflicts and transparent analysis of the causes of delays support more efficient construction site management. - Developed specifically for railway infrastructure projects:
The solution has been developed in close collaboration with project teams and is tailored to the requirements of complex tunnel and railway construction sites.
This RSRG solution combines BIM, 4D construction planning and Serious Gaming in an interactive simulation platform. Construction and logistics processes can be planned virtually, optimised and presented in a way that is easy for everyone involved to understand.
What makes it innovative?
- A virtual construction site before work begins:
Construction sequences, logistics processes and resource deployment can be realistically simulated, compared and optimised before costs are incurred on the actual construction site. - Data-driven evaluation of different scenarios:
Different construction scenarios are not only visualised but also directly assessed in terms of costs, schedules, resource requirements, material flows and CO₂ emissions. - A shared project understanding for everyone involved:
Visual representation creates transparency and makes complex interdependencies easier to understand for project teams, subcontractors, clients, safety managers and even local residents.
