mPOM (mobile Positioning of Maintenance Work) automatically records where, when and what work has been carried out by a track maintenance machine. The system replaces manual work reports with digital, position-accurate documentation.
To determine the position, mPOM combines GNSS and RTK with inertial sensors and odometry. This enables continuous positioning even when satellite reception is limited or unavailable, for example in tunnels. The typical positioning accuracy within the track topology network is ±1 m.
The recorded data is automatically assigned to the correct track and exact kilometre position. Each run therefore generates a georeferenced work dataset. This data can be integrated into existing asset management, GIS or measurement systems or displayed in a dashboard. Machine measurement data, such as rail profile data, can also be linked to the position.
mPOM is a product of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB). It is developed and distributed by ARGE SAR, a partnership between Rhomberg Sersa Rail Machine AG and ANavS GmbH. The system is already in operational use on tamping, rail grinding and rail milling machines.
