About the project
As part of the Strategic Development Programme for Rail Infrastructure (STEP), the expansion of the Basel rail node was approved, resulting in increased capacity demand at Basel SBB station. To accommodate this, the construction of an additional platform and the expansion of the southern track layout were planned.
The project scope for lot 1 covered Münchenstein, Basel SBB and St. Johann and was divided into seven phases. The main works were located at Basel station. Around ten different trades were involved, requiring a high level of coordination during execution. Cable works were also included in lot 1.
Advantage: RSRG was also involved in lot 6, which included overhead line works, enabling synergies to be utilised. Third-party projects such as turnout and track renewals under general contracting were partly executed in parallel.
Special features
- High coordination effort between multiple trades/lots and specialist services
- Short night possessions and precise planning due to operational constraints (Basel SBB station)
- Multiple parallel work sites across the entire project area (St. Johann – Basel PB – Münchenstein)
- Complex and high-precision execution
- Rail logistics via St. Johann required for all platform reconstruction works
