On that day, the company that is now part of the Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group laid the foundation for a new era: in its founding year, the track construction company brought mechanised track construction to Austria and set new standards at the time by introducing machines into the process.

With innovation, foresight, and a strong pioneering spirit, the founders imported two Matisa tamping machines from Switzerland – and used them for the first time in Austria.

It was a historic moment that marked the birth of mechanised track construction in Austria – and the beginning of a remarkable success story.

Today, 75 years later, the former Bahnbau Wels has become an integral part of the Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group. Its service portfolio has steadily grown, and the machine fleet remains state of the art. As the pioneer of mechanised track construction, the company is still the market leader in tamping technology in Austria – and continues to stand for innovation, reliability, and technical excellence.
